Judy Mc Caig
Judy McCaig is a Scottish jeweller, printmaker and painter who since 1991 lives and works in Barcelona. Born in Edinburgh, she studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee, Scotland before realising her Master of Arts degree at The Royal College of Art in London where she specialised in jewellery. She practised printmaking for several years after leaving college and established her workshop in London. Her work is part of many public and private collections and has been exhibited extensively in galleries and museums throughout the world. In Judy McCaig’s work there is a close relationship between the drawing and the finished jewel. She uses the sketches as a trigger for an idea or feeling, creating a connection between the two disciplines. Her sensitive pieces move our own imagination exploring the relationship of the human being with time and memory and makes us think of a world that has already left, achieving as a result, work of extraordinary technical wealth, thematic, with an attractive enigmatic component.
The journey, be it short or long, is necessary to feed my ongoing fascination. The two are interconnected, intertwined. Images stored subconsciously to unfold sometime in the future. Every day encounters or faraway discoveries. Changing landscapes, ancient cities, distant ruins, walls crumbling, paint peeling. Many words describe this insatiable yearning. Refuse, waste, rubbish, detritus, garbage, scrap discarded, left to rust, decay and change slowly over time. Scavenging, uncovering, revealing, bringing to light”. Judy Mc Caig
