Lluís Comín Vilajosana was born in Barcelona on November 14, 1958. Since his youth he has been interested in jewellery, learning the craft of goldsmithing in his father’s jewellery workshop. Later he graduated in Gemmology with a specialization in diamonds at the University of Barcelona, at the Gemological Association of Great Britain and in Jewellery at the Massana School. In the art jewels of Lluís Comín you can appreciate the inspiration based on universal myths and overwhelming and intimate influences of nature. The artist’s statement “Over the years, intuition has become a form of intelligence” clearly reflects the combination that can be found in each of the creator’s works of art: respect for tradition, experience, artistic skill and creative impulse. The artist’s love for his land, Barcelona, and the mountains can be found in each of his creations, where natural elements are often included, such as Montjuic’s Jasper in the Barcino collection, or the Reconstructions collection.

Something that has influenced me most in life is my relationship with the mountain . There are so many converging aspects that make me feel this way… For example, when hiking through the mountain one can experience the cycle of nature: the first blossoms, the bird that again makes a nest or the running of chamois flocks together with their winter offspring. The snow’s deep silence, the intense blue sky or the raging stormy wind make one believe in the gods and provoke that one comes back again and again to this sacred temple where friendship becomes a kind of religion. The mountain is the place where the senses and emotions become sharper, where a parenthesis of memories opens up and where time is relative and freedom absolute. In his monumental novel The Magic Mountain, set in The Alps, Thomas Mann knew perfectly how to reflect this emotion of a parallel reality in which things seem to happen in a different way”.
